The Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is Victoria’s independent environmental regulator. EPA works to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of pollution and waste on Victorians and their environment, collaborating with the community, governments, and industry to achieve its objectives. Over the past five years, EPA has undergone significant transformation with the Environment Protection Act 2017 coming into effect on July 1, 2021. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at EPA, reporting to the Director of Business Strategy and Operations, is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s financial management, planning, risk management, and regulatory compliance. This senior leadership role ensures adherence to legislative requirements and provides strategic financial advice to the Senior Executive Committee, CEO, and Governing Board. The CFO leads financial accounting and business partnering services, implements strategies to support EPA’s financial sustainability, and drives financial and operational improvements. The role requires a financial expert with strong technical skills, a strategic outlook, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive senior-level experience in financial management and accounting within a public sector organisation. A tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, or a related field, along with CPA or CA accreditation, is essential, as well as a thorough understanding of public sector legislative requirements and accounting standards. The candidate should demonstrate a proven track record in leading financial strategy, governance, and risk management, overseeing budgeting, financial planning, and reporting to senior executives and/or boards, and in coaching and developing high-performing teams.
