Our client, an iconic Australian brand, develops processes and systems that provide currency forecasting, processing and logistics to a growing number of customers. Within the organisation there was a high demand for project activity, driven by customer requirements. It wanted to enhance ways of working throughout the company.
Projects varied considerably in size and complexity. There was no mechanism in place to assess and recommend delivery priorities, or the ability to forecast resourcing aligned to demand.
The PMO and IT delivery teams were constantly inundated with ad-hoc requests and as a result, struggled to manage workload effectively.
In addition, the approach to managing a project was determined by the skill set of the person to whom it was assigned. The resulting sub-optimal delivery of many projects led to delays, inevitable cost over-runs and low customer satisfaction.
Our client engaged Davidson Technology Consulting to design a framework and tools to
prioritise projects and
resource them effectively. This would enable its PMO and IT delivery teams to better manage workflows and
eliminate wasteful practices.
Our first step was to understand and benchmark the client’s current methods for capturing new projects, prioritising them and assigning delivery resources.
This was achieved via a review of all existing documentation and a series of interviews with C-suite stakeholders to identify key business drivers. We maintained regular contact with these stakeholders throughout the process to ensure ongoing buy-in.

It was now supported with a formal mechanism to assess the correct delivery approach (Agile, Waterfall or Hybrid) for each project.
