About the Role
As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a crucial role in managing financial reporting, compliance, and analysis to support business operations. Your responsibilities will include ensuring accurate financial records, driving process improvements, and providing insights for strategic decision-making. Collaborating closely with the Finance Manager and the broader finance team, you will leverage your strong technical accounting skills and attention to detail to navigate the complexities of the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Compliance:
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB).
    • Manage the preparation of BAS, FBT, and other tax obligations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee general ledger reconciliations and month-end close processes.
    • Liaise with external auditors and support audit processes.
  • Project & Cost Accounting:
    • Monitor project financial performance, ensuring accurate cost allocations and revenue recognition.
    • Collaborate with project managers to track budgets, identify variances, and report on project profitability.
    • Maintain WIP (Work in Progress) reporting and provide insights to management.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
    • Conduct financial analysis to support business decisions and identify cost-saving opportunities.
    • Provide variance analysis and recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Process Improvement & Systems:
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting accuracy and efficiency.
    • Support the implementation and optimisation of financial systems and reporting tools.
    • Ensure strong internal controls are maintained across financial processes.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Collaborate with internal teams, including project managers, site teams, and senior leadership.
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to key stakeholders to drive business performance.
    • Work closely with external parties, including auditors, tax advisors, and banks.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong technical accounting background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • CA or CPA qualification (or working towards).
  • 5+ years of experience in financial accounting, ideally within the construction, engineering, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and taxation compliance.
  • Experience with WIP reporting and project-based accounting is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in financial systems such as Jobpac or other large ERP systems
