Project Officer - Return to Work & Compensation

Working as a Project Officer with this State Government Department, you will be supporting the Return to Work and Compensation team in managing complex workers' compensation claims and assisting workplaces in maintaining safe environments. You will ensure compliance with the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation (WIRC) Act 2013 and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Department’s Workers' Compensation performance, employee wellbeing and workplace culture.

Duties & Responsibilities:

HR Support & Payroll Administration

  • Assist with HR procedures associated with Workers' Compensation
  • Review payroll data to ensure injured workers receive correct payments
  • Process certificates of capacity, current weekly earnings (CWE), and pre-injury average weekly earnings (PIAWE)
  • Maintain accurate records in line with legislative, information security, and privacy requirements

Workers' Compensation Support & Advice

  • Work with managers and staff to identify and resolve Workers' Compensation challenges
  • Provide advice to senior management on complex claims to support informed decision-making
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and correspondence related to Workers' Compensation issues

Project & Learning Support

  • Support the Return to Work and Compensation Team with project delivery, tracking, and reporting
  • Assist with the administration, design, and delivery of learning and development initiatives related to Workers' Compensation

About You:

We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented, and process-driven individual with strong stakeholder relationship management skills. The ideal candidate will have:

  • HR and administrative experience (Workers' Compensation experience is not required)
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and support managers
  • Strong payroll administration skills (experience with pay processes will be highly regarded)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation and HR policies
