About the Company

Davidson is working with a state government department who are seeking an experienced Project Manager.

About the Role

It will involve a considerable amount of stakeholder engagement and consultation. The project manager will be operating in a complex environment and a need to deliver results. Therefore, the ability to adapt, to be proactive in problem solving and to work effectively within the team and autonomously will be crucial for success.

The project manager will be expected to utilise aspects of agile in the delivery of the projects and apply (where applicable) the department’s enterprise project management methodology, will have a growth mindset and be dedicated to and participate in continuous improvement workstreams.

One of these projects is focussed on the uplift of the Division’s infrastructure financial management practices, with the first stage of this project focussed on the management of accruals for infrastructure projects.

  • Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and governance documentation.
  • Provide leadership to and coordinate the activities of the Financial Management project team.
  • Apply fit-for-purpose principles in developing, managing and maintaining relevant project management artefacts.
  • Identify, document and manage project risks, issues and dependencies and proactively work towards their resolution.
  • Support the project sponsor in their championship of the project to the Executive Management Team and senior project stakeholders.
  • Identify, document and manage stakeholder expectations in alignment with project
  • Manage the project within its non-financial and financial constraints and report within existing arrangements to the Executive Management Team.
  • Risk and issue management: proactively identify, document, and manage project risks and issues, working with workstream leads and the project team to develop mitigation strategies. Escalate critical risks as appropriate to maintain project momentum.
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication: act as the central point of contact, facilitating communication and collaboration across teams. Ensure key stakeholders are kept informed of project progress, changes, and decisions that may impact on delivering the project objectives.
  • Governance and compliance: ensure project governance frameworks are followed. Support the Senior Project Manager in preparing for governance meetings, including
  • steering committee sessions and project reviews.
  • Reporting: development of project status reports, dashboards, and senior stakeholder (Executive, Board) level reporting.
  • Change control: manage change requests, ensuring that any deviations from the project plan are evaluated, approved, and communicated effectively. Maintain a change and decision log and assess the impact of changes on scope, schedule, and resources.
  • Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to improve project outcomes. Support the development of project management tools, templates, and best practices
  • to drive continuous improvement across the projects.
  • Ensure effective change management practices are embedded in project delivery in collaboration with the Organisational Change Manager (OCM).

About you

  • Experience in project management, ideally within large-scale transformation or transition programs. Experience with ICT projects and/or built infrastructure projects and/or financial management projects is highly desirable (but not essential).
  • Proven expertise in project governance and reporting, including development of project status reports, dashboards, and senior stakeholder (Executive, Board) level reporting.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of using datadriven insights to inform project decisions and maintain overall project health.
  • Proficient in project management software and tools (e.g. Microsoft Project, MS Suite, JIRA) with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and optimise their use for project delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business administration or related field.
  • Must be residing in Brisbane, Australia to be consider for this role.
