The Northern Territory Department of Corrections is dedicated to fostering rehabilitation and community safety. The Department of Corrections is partnering with the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure (DLI) to undertake an ambitious capital works program under the Corrections Infrastructure Masterplan. The Masterplan involves four tranches of capital works and significant infrastructure capability across the Norther Territory’s key adult corrections and youth justice facilities.

The Assistant Commissioner will lead a dedicated team in partnering with DLI to develop and execute sophisticated infrastructure plans for secure facilities, coordinating specialised expertise tailored to the unique departmental needs. Collaborating closely DLI, you'll direct technical aspects across planning, design, and construction for projects throughout the Northern Territory. The successful candidate will also have experience managing and overseeing ongoing maintenance schedules for operational correctional centres.

Your role will also ensure strict compliance with Work Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and environmental standards, demonstrating our commitment to safety and sustainability. The Executive Director will manage the Corrections infrastructure and facilities program, making a significant impact on community safety and rehabilitation outcomes in the Northern Territory.

The Department is seeking a candidate with strong capabilities in project and contract management (with emphasis on large construction and operational contracts), specifically in design and tender documentation for infrastructure projects, ideally within secure facilities. You should bring extensive experience in successfully delivering infrastructure projects for secure facilities, demonstrating a track record of achievement. Proven leadership in complex contracts and stakeholder negotiations is essential, along with a robust ability in dispute resolution, managing complex risks, and implementing effective risk mitigation plans.

Your executive-level interpersonal skills, communication prowess, conflict resolution abilities, and adeptness in report writing are crucial for navigating a complex organisational environment with multiple stakeholders. Additionally, we value high-level commercial and business acumen, including strategic awareness to identify key business drivers and implement innovative solutions to multifaceted challenges.
